Add files to Slack

To help you work with your team in Slack, y'all can add files to your workspace. Files are searchable and shareable across Slack, making information technology easier for anybody to find the data they demand and work together.

How it works

Notation: Uploading and sharing files may be restricted for Slack Connect conversations, and certain file types tin can't be added at all. If yous can't add files to these conversations, find an owner or admin and inquire for help.


Add files

You can add together files up to 1GB in size.

  1. Drag and drop up to 10 files into the Slack bulletin field, or click the
    plus icon next to the message field and choose files to add.
  2. Include a bulletin about the file(southward) if you'd like. If you're calculation an image, you can likewise include a description.
  3. Send the bulletin.

Tip: If a file direction app has been added to your workspace, yous tin can click the plus icon then select your preferred app to add files. These files won't be stored in Slack, but they'll be searchable and shareable beyond your workspace.

  1. Open a channel or direct message (DM).

Slack will include a preview of a file equally part of your message. Browse files

Create an external link

Revoke an external link

In a public channel, any member can create an external link for a file. In a private aqueduct, only the person who uploaded the file can create an external link for it.

  1. From your desktop, hover over the file you'd like to create a link for.
  2. Click the three dots icon in the top right.
  3. SelectCreate external link.
  4. Copy the link to your clipboard, so clickDone.

Note: If yous don't see the option to create an external link, y'all may exist viewing a file shared from another service or a Workspace Owner or Admin may have disabled this feature. Notice an possessor or admin to ask for help.

Only the person who uploaded the file can revoke its external link.

Download files

Delete files

Any member or guest can delete a file they've uploaded to Slack. Workspace Owners and Admins can delete files that have been added to public channels and whatever individual channels or DMs they're in.

  2. Click the three dots icon in the summit correct.
  3. Select Delete file, then click Yeah, delete this file to confirm.
